PUPPIES

3 Male & 1 Female | Born December 11th | Puppy energy | From Manitoba | Fostered in Winnipeg | Arriving to Toronto mid February | All looking for adopters

Puppies! Run, don’t walk, because we officially have 4 pups (3 male and 1 female!), each looking for their furever homes. These pups are currently living in Winnipeg and are making the journey to Toronto in mid February. They’ll be a little over 2 months old when they arrive and are likely to grow into large dogs. They might look small now, but that won’t last long! We recommend looking up northern breeds for more insights and being prepared for obedience classes once they are old enough. TBD on their exact date of arrival, so for any potential adopters, keep in mind you’ll need to be flexible when it comes to your availability.

Rigby is the gentle giant of the litter - and the fluffiest of them all! Calm, cuddly, and equally content playing with his siblings or snoozing on his own, he’s the perfect mix of independent and affectionate. This sweet boy is an expert snuggler with a heart to match his size.

Desmond is a striking pup with a gentle, easy-going nature. Polite and patient, he waits his turn for pets and proudly wags his tail when spoken to. Plus, he’s already crushing his house training, proving he’s as smart as he is handsome!

Jude may be the littlest of the bunch, but he’s full of spunk! Though mostly a calm guy, he’s been coming out of his shell more lately and enjoying wrestling with his bigger siblings, complete with hilarious grunts. He looks like his mama but has an unforgettable bright blue eye!

Maggie Mae is a stunning husky lookalike with a big voice and an even bigger personality. She enjoys being a part of the action, whether it’s playing with her siblings or joining in on whatever you’re up to. This blue-eyed beauty loves attention and isn’t shy about asking for affection, either!

Apply for one of these canine companions today! If you are open to any puppy, please state that in your application.

*Last photo is of mom, who is a medium-large-sized mix.

PEANUT - APP IN PROCESS

Female | 13 years old | 12 pounds | Low energy | Best as a solo dog | Likely ok with cats | Best with older kids | From Ontario | Fostered in Mississauga | Affectionate and gentle

She’s cute, and she knows it. Meet PEANUT! Busy settling into foster care, PEANUT over here is in search of a patient adopter who’s eager to help her become her most confident, self-assured, well, self.

She’d snooze all day if she could, preferably next to her people. That said, she’s also willing to do anything provided that treats are on the line! She’s highly food motivated, this one. PEANUT also happens to be a friendly gal who enjoys meeting new people. She’d love it if you were home more often than not. Do you work from home? That would be her ideal scenario!

Alongside her foster fam, PEANUT has been learning boundaries and diligently working on crate training. She craves attention from her people and has progressed so much in just a short while. She now settles without a peep (major win!) as soon as her crate is covered and sleeps in it overnight.

PEANUT will live her best life in a home with older, dog-savvy kids (if any!) who can respect her need for personal space. No dogs, though! She’s a solo scruff in the home kind of gal. Her interactions with other dogs have ranged from indifferent to heightened, which can involve her lunging. We recommend she meet any potential dog pals slowly on a leash, in a controlled setting.

We also wanted to share that this scruff is doing well with picking up basic commands such as sit and stay, and will continue to progress with house training in her adoptive home. Think PEANUT might just be the one for you? Apply to adopt!

Please note: Adoption fees for senior scruffs vary depending on age, breed, and health! PEANUT’s adoption fees are $550.

RENNIE

Male | 6 months old | 50 pounds | Medium energy | Good second dog | Previously met cats, playful | From Manitoba | Fostered in Toronto | Playful & goofy | Quick learner

Ready to meet your new partner in crime? His name is RENNIE! His eagerness to greet his humans each and every morning (and any other time he exits his crate) is so sweet to see. He also likes to show off his butt wiggles and big stretches! He’s got the biggest and best playful personality, and he’s 100% the kind of scruff that thrives with human companionship (and routine!). If you’re looking for one, he’d be your most loyal BFF.

RENNIE’s days are chock-full of learning, playing, and structured walks (during which he’s working on redirection when other dogs pass by as he gets excited). He’s a big fan of chase and tug. He’s super food-motivated, which makes training extra fun, especially when his kibble is on the line. If we could humble-brag super quick, we’d tell you that he’s a master at sit and stay… even if he may sometimes pretend not to hear you! He’s also accomplished stairs, and house training and crate training have equally been a breeze.

RENNIE is thriving with structured crate time throughout the day, where he’s learning to settle and become comfortable in his own company. Routine is everything. As this young pup continues to learn, we think that he’d love living in a home with a (possibly bigger) dog to show him the ropes. Cats? RENNIE has done well with previously meeting and living with cats. But all cat personalities are different and having space to work on integration would be great.

One thing we’ve learned about RENNIE is that he needs a solid transition period to set him up for success. He does best with a little time to settle in and learn the routine, and he thrives when he has clear structure in place. RENNIE has some great foundational skills and would love to keep practicing and building on them. Classes would be a wonderful way for him to connect with his new handler, and he’d love a home that is excited to continue his training and support his growth.

Keen to meet your new BFF? Apply to adopt RENNIE!

MARGO - APP IN PROCESS

Female | 7 years old | 37 pounds | Medium-low energy | Has met kids of all ages | Hasn’t met cats | From Burlington | Fostered in Toronto | Playful & curious yet chill | Affectionate with her humans

People-pleaser alert! We’re only kidding, but honestly, MARGO over here loves attention from her people, which she knows will follow a job well done. With MARGO being as personable as she is, we’re happy to oblige!

This scruff’s transition from a shelter environment in Burlington to a condo environment in Toronto was straightforward. The sounds of the city haven’t fazed her, and she quickly settled in over the holidays. MARGO and her foster fam even checked out a live music venue recently, which was a success! Pretty accommodating if you ask us. As long as she can put her paws up (figuratively) and relax for a nap after. So, urban, rural, whatever the environment, MARGO is likely to do just fine.

MARGO’s ideal day involves outdoor time, nap time, and socialization time. Going on walks to new places and making new friends with humans and dogs is fun for her. If that sounds fun to you, you might be looking at your new canine companion. When you or others (kids included) meet her for the first time, she may jump, but she will settle after her initial excitement.

What else? She uses a crate like it’s no biggie, responds well to boundaries, and is pretty good on a leash. Triple threat? You betcha. Oh, and if you were curious, MARGO has decent recall and would be fine in her own company while you work your 9-5 job. Obviously, she’s a fan of cuddles, so that’s a must before she hits the hay in the evening.

CARLOS

Male | 13 years old | 6 pounds | Low energy | Lives with dogs | Limited exposure to kids | Hasn’t met cats | From Hamilton | Fostered in Milton

At 13, sweet senior CARLOS is all set to find his retirement home! Think you could help us set him up? Here are the deets: He likes to snooze, he likes to catch some Zzz’s, and he likes making friends with other scruffs. For CARLOS, it’s all about the little things in life, and he’s looking to enjoy those little things with someone perhaps just like yourself! Interested? Love that for you both!

Picture this: a pooch that snoozes by your side, keeping you company throughout the day and a fresh air buddy that gets you out and stretching your legs on a work break. Just FYI, he’s great on leash! Life with CARLOS is all about companionship, and you’ll soon find that after a period of getting to know you, he’ll become more comfortable and more readily show you his love.

For CARLOS, his crate is his safe space, and he uses it freely as he pleases. He also enjoys playing gently with his stuffies and his foster family’s dogs too, for that matter. CARLOS is happy living with other dogs and would continue to do well in a home as a second dog. Not only because he has fun playing with them, but also because having another dog(s) to learn from may help his confidence grow in his old age.

While CARLOS would likely do fine living with a cat, we think he’d do best in a home with no kids, as rambunctious energy might be too much for him. He’s working through anxiety and is regularly taking medication to help support him. All in all, living in a calm environment where there’s a consistent routine will set him up best going forward.

Please note: Adoption fees for senior scruffs vary depending on age, breed, and health! CARLOS’ adoption fees are $550.

ISAAC - APP IN PROCESS

Male | ~2 years old | 35 pounds | Medium energy | Coexists well with dogs | Hasn’t met cats | From Mexico | Fostered in Vaughan | Gentle, Curious, Explorer

Meet ISAAC, a gentle scruff who’s been slowly but surely coming out of his shell in his foster home. With his mostly white coat, cute tan ears, and unique speckled markings, ISAAC is an adorably compact 35 pounds—the perfect size for almost any living space! At just about 2 years old, it’s ISAAC’s sensitive, observant, and curious nature that will steal your heart.

Indoors, ISAAC is house-trained and crate-trained—his crate being his safe space where he feels most comfortable relaxing. He’s building confidence when meeting new people and exploring more of his foster home at his own pace. He is starting to enjoy being a part of the home’s daily rhythm and observing his foster family’s activities. With the people he trusts, he is incredibly affectionate—full of tail wags, kisses, and goofy excitement. Nothing is more heartwarming than his signature tippy-taps!

Outdoors is where ISAAC shines! He is a fantastic loose-leash walker, both attentive and easygoing, which makes for peaceful walks. His foster family hasn’t observed any prey drive or reactivity towards dogs or people. Occasional loud noises may make him pause, but he recovers quickly. ISAAC loves following his foster dog sister on pack walks and coexists well with her at home. That said, we think he’d be happiest as a solo dog where he doesn’t feel the need to compete for attention. He has not been tested with children and would likely do best with older, dog-savvy kids who can interact with him respectfully.

This scruff’s ideal home will stick to a routine, boundaries, and extend patience as he continues to learn and gain confidence. A couple of good walks, some outdoor exploring, and affection from his favourite humans would make a perfect day. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion, apply to adopt ISAAC!

ZSA-ZSA - APP IN PROCESS

Female | 6.5 months old | 25 pounds & growing! | Medium energy | Friendly meeting kids | Has met some dogs | Hasn’t met cats, shows slight prey drive | From Manitoba | Fostered in Toronto | Playful & curious

Affectionate. Rambunctious. Friendly. These are all great descriptors of this scruff named ZSA-ZSA. At five months old, she’s growing a little more every day, and it’s her playful personality that keeps her foster family busy on any given day!

ZSA-ZSA’s playfulness, combined with her curious nature, can lead to a display of boisterous energy. But what exactly does this look like? A tendency to jump in excitement when she’s making new friends with other dogs. We love the energy she brings to the table, though she is working on calmer interactions, as not all dogs want to interact in a similar fashion. Her pushiness has us searching for an adopter(s) that will continue to be consistent with the rules and boundaries they establish with ZSA-ZSA.

Having met kids of all ages, ZSA-ZSA is always pleased to interact with them and shows more restraint in these scenarios. She has developed even more confidence in the care of her foster family as well, which is great to see. We’re also seeing that consistency in and of itself has been a great tool in helping ZSA-ZSA learn the ins and outs of leash walking, especially with all the distractions that public spaces inevitably involve.

ZSA-ZSA is in search of a family to call her own. Keen to adopt? Apply today!
