Jenna Bye

Executive Director

JENNA joined SOS in 2014 as our social media guru. As the community has grown, so has Jenna’s role. What started as using her voice through social media to support dogs has led to her current role as Executive Director. Which is basically a fancy way of saying she does A. LOT. of work both behind the scenes and in front of the screen (if you’ve never seen Jenna’s face, do you even follow SOS??) to educate and advocate for dogs and humans.

Robyn Cross, RVT

Veterinary Care Advisor

ROBYN joined SOS in 2015 as a transport volunteer, which led to her becoming a key member of the vetting team. She found SOS through a wonderful group of women known as the Crazy Dog Ladies, who mentioned SOS was looking for volunteers and the rest is history.

Our Mascot

Micke

Save Our Scruff Mascot

MICKE was adopted by the Bye family in 2014. After looking for a home in the Dominican for a year, local rescue Moringa's Mission was able to find a flight parent for him to try out adoption in Canada. His initial adoption didn't work out, and he ended up in the Bye family home. And he never left. He joined the fam when SOS was just getting started, and quickly became our poster boy.

our FOUNDER

LAURA BYE

SOS Founder 🏳️‍🌈

Laura is the one who kicked this whole dang thing right off! She got involved with dog rescue back in 2013 as a foster for another rescue. But you know how natural-born leaders are, the next thing she knew she was (micro)managing a lot of it and couldn’t turn it off. Because of her eagerness and excitement, she learned fast, and soon enough, she had the confidence and know-how to start SOS up on her own. From the get-go she was a revolving-door foster to many dogs, often those with more difficult needs. She’ll be quick to say she’s no expert, but she’d probably pipe up with “I’m a forever-learning dog advocate, duh.”

If you know Laura in real life, then you know she is always moving. Like, always. Vibrate mode even. She’ll say it like it’s a bad thing, or worry that it’s distracting in one-on-one conversations, but we disagree. This human loves music, dancing and foraging for mushrooms but not eating them because she still can’t tell which ones are safe or not. And if you’re ever in a room with this grown-up-kid in overalls, just listen for her laugh. Or chime in with your own - it’s the other language she speaks.
